Soundscape—extending over a total area of 827 square meters at Sino Ocean Taikoo Li in Chengdu—is a site-specific multimedia installation that celebrates unity and hope.
Believing in the transcendence of emotions through the natural interaction between the artwork, the audience, and its environment; Soundscape brings to life a transformative experience blending the most essential elements that have always gathered and elevated people: light and music. With its mandala-inspired installation of forty-five spheric mirrors representing abstract human faces looking up to a totemic beacon of light, the artwork pays tribute through its design to the long heritage of Daci Temple, once known as a site for inspirational gathering, attracting artists and scholars from all around the ancient kingdom. By combining acousmatic experience, immersive light projections and kinetic technology, the work engages the viewer to navigate the space through senses creating a unique moment of communion and harmony. Music, light and motion poetically coalesce and converge, forming two immersive tales: Beacon and Sunrise; both celebrating the concept of hope and enlightenment.
