The Event

First Congress on Tourism and the Blue Economy in Europe. It seeks to promote a model of responsible tourism, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, with emphasis on the blue economy.

The Sun&Blue Congress promotes blue and sustainable tourism, advocating for a model that respects marine and coastal ecosystems. The Congress seeks to foster innovation and digitalization in the sector, create a meeting place for administrations, companies, scientists, and civil society, and support training and research related to responsible tourism. Additionally, Sun&Blue Congress strives to align the tourism sector with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and establish Almería and Spain as global leaders in sustainable tourism. These efforts are all within the framework of the blue economy, which is committed to economic development linked to the oceans and the sustainable use of their resources.

Sun&Blue Congress goes beyond the traditional conference format and is committed to a transformative experience that combines knowledge and action. Its innovative approach is reflected in the integration of parallel activities that connect academic content with social and environmental mobilization.
An example of this was the beach cleanup day at El Toyo, which involved citizens of Almería, associations, La Legión, and students from IES El Alquián, promoting active participation and ecological awareness at the local level.
The conference also hosted the presentation of ‘La España Azul’ (Blue Spain), the first scientific and educational expedition by sailboat around the Spanish coast, led by Nacho Dean, ambassador for Sun&Blue, reinforcing the event’s commitment to science, education, and the blue economy.
The Sun&Blue Awards were also launched, recognizing the best initiatives and experiences in Blue Tourism developed by companies, institutions, and organizations.
