IRELAND – Tourism Event funding programme launched for Northern Ireland

A Tourism Event funding programme has been launched for Northern Ireland. Supporting home-grown and international events running between 1 April 2013 and 31 March 2014, the initiatives will aid the delivery of the Draft Northern Ireland Tourism Strategy to 2020 by increasing visitor numbers and the income earned from tourism.

The National Tourism Events Fund will support national events that contribute to specific geographical areas of Northern Ireland. Funding requests of between £5,000 and £30,000 will be accepted. The overall total event costs must be at least £50,000 with an aimed return of investment of 5:1.

Moreover, the International Tourism Events Fund will support major events which aim to attract a high-level of international visitors, gain international media coverage, and which are likely to provide a high return on investment. Funding requests of greater than £30,000 will be accepted with an aimed return of investment of 8:1.

The scheme is administered by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board and Tourism Minister Arlene Foster said that the events industry is of crucial importance to Northern Ireland.
“An innovative series of fresh events covering a broad range of our cultural, arts and sport offering is a great draw for tourists both at home and further afield,” she said.
