The Event

10th-anniversary entity for Small Giant Games employees to retain current talent and attract new talent, highlighting their commitment to gaming innovation and a positive work environment.

Finland’s thriving mobile game industry has been a cornerstone of our economy over the past decade. The high demand for skilled professionals and the remoteness of Finland leads to intense competition for talented individuals in this sector.
A significant threat confronting a gaming company such as Small Giant Games is the potential loss of its current talented workforce coupled with the inability to attract new talent.
To overcome this threat, we established three objectives as a part of our Purpose Driven Event Strategy:
1.Keep The Talent by nurturing SGG’s community culture, thereby growing employee loyalty over the long term. Validate the outcome with the Great Place To Work survey
2.Attract New Talents: Expect to witness growth in recruitment figures, particularly through referrals from existing staff members, ensuring the right cultural fit
3.Foster Creative Productivity by nurturing interaction and teamwork through events, leading to an engaged, motivated, and dynamic workforce

At the end of the year 2022, we challenged Small Giant Games to a workshop to take a deeper look at the purpose of the events for the upcoming Year of 10th Anniversary. As an outcome, we created a PURPOSE DRIVEN EVENT STRATEGY.

We started the work with the objectives – and then created the tools to reach them:
1. We created a year-long series of events instead of one big event because building the culture takes time
2. We identified the groups of people who influence and play a significant role in employees’ work lives – we used this information to build the timeline and content for the series of events (described in Execution)
3. We planned the purpose of each event to impact each of these groups – starting from an individual, expanding to teams, the company, and the whole gaming industry; not forgetting the loved ones of the employees
4. We created a communication tool and a year-long storyline that engaged employees by enabling two-way communication (described in Channel Strategy)
