BELGIUM – Registrations open for the European Advertising Certificate 2013

The European Advertising Certificate, the only consistent, European-
wide foundation-level qualification for young agency personnel, has re-opened for its second year of
registrations on 1 October 2012.

A total of 815 young professionals undertook the learning this year, with 349 going on to sit the exam
on 19 April and a total of 338 receiving either a pass, credit or distinction.

The Certificate is open exclusively to agency employees of member agencies of the European
Association of Communications Agencies
(EACA) across Europe and the Middle East with up to two
year’s industry experience and provides learners with a thorough understanding of the advertising
industry and its processes, a comprehensive overview of the brand communication process and acts
as a complement to their day-to-day ‘on the job’ experience.

The online programme comprises 6 learning paths or modules: Advertising and Communication in
Context; Understanding Clients’ Business; Client, Creative and Media Briefs; Creativity and Creative
Development; Understanding Media Channels and Implementing Creative Ideas. It uses a mix of
video, easy readers, e-lessons, assignments, quizzes and discussion groups to provide variety and
maintain student interest.

The contents has been adapted from the successful Institute of Practitioners in Advertising’s
Foundation Certificate
, created in 2004, and produced by the European Association of
Communications Agencies with support from the European Commission’s Leonardo programme. It
is directly comparable to the IPA Foundation Certificate, but adapted in terms of language & content
for a wider European audience. The 2013 content has been extended and improved, with a stronger
focus on digital & mobile media and adding more video lessons from European industry experts.

The programme comprises 25-30 hours of online learning, followed by a three-hour written
examination which will take place on 25 February 2013 in participating countries in Europe and Middle
East. The learning is free and the examination costs € 220 per person.

“We received extremely positive feedback from the first generation of EAC graduates and hope this
will encourage communications agencies to register their young professionals in order to benefit from
this fantastic online training”, said Dominic Lyle, Director General, EACA. “I am very much looking
forward to welcoming another wave of young professionals to the second edition of the EAC.”

Registration opened on 1 October 2012 and will close on 11 February 2013. The exam will take place
on 25 February 2013 at national level. For more information and to register for the course, visit:
