AUSTRIA – Hofburg Vienna: a preview of the events in 2014

Every year the Hofburg Vienna hosts around 300 events for anywhere between 50 and 4,900 people, welcoming a total of around 320,000 visitors. A packed schedule of conferences, banquets, trade fairs and balls will help to make 2014 a year to remember.

Throughout 2014 the Hofburg will be busy hosting a packed line-up of conferences and meetings: the EU’S Erasmus+ programme for education, training, youth and sport for 2014-2020 (22 January), as well as the Annual Meeting of the Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (12-15 February) were only the kick-off events for this new year.

In addition to this, there will be returning events such as the 35th International Vienna Motor Symposium (8-9 May), the Microsoft Day (8 April) and the Werbeplanung.at Summit (3-4 July). The 9th EFRC Conference of the European Forum for Reciprocating Compressors (10-12 September), will see around 500 delegates converge on the Hofburg Vienna.

Recent confirmations include a large-scale oncological conference in December for around 1,000 specialists. Hosted by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Consumer Protection, the Old Age Pensions for Women – Entitlements and Avoiding Poverty in Old Age conference (3-4 April) will look at various legal aspects of retirement income. Statutory deliberations will also be at the heart of the XVIth Congress of the Conference of European Constitutional Courts (12-13 May).

Increasing numbers of event organisers are also turning to the Hofburg Vienna as a gala venue, with the Romy Gala (26 April) and the Trophée Gourmet À la Carte award ceremony (May) bringing a host of celebrities to the centre. Wine buffs will be out in force in 2014 for the Weinviertel DAC wine presentation (11 March) and the Burgenland wine presentation (17 March). Lastly, the Hofburg Vienna-organised New Year’s Eve ball on 31st December 2014 promises to be an unforgettable highlight once again this year.

High-calibre fairs and exhibitions are a regular feature at the Hofburg Vienna. This year the VieVinum (14-16 June) fair, held every two years, will treat its guests to the very best that the world of wine has to offer. Meanwhile, the ReiseSalon (17-19 October) exhibition will give 6,000 travel fans an insight into some of the more unusual destinations and packages available worldwide. A few weeks later, Art & Antique Hofburg Vienna (8-16 November) will transform the former imperial residence into a treasure chamber.
