US – THE LEGO GROUP AND FIFA UNVEIL A GIANT REPLICA OF THE WORLD CUP TROPHY AT ROCKEFELLER PLAZA TO INAUGURATE THE FAN ZONE
The brick brand and football’s governing body have inaugurated an impressive sculpture of the famous world prize in New York. The record-breaking installation, positioned in the heart of the famous American plaza, officially kicks off an interactive experiential area designed to engage sports enthusiasts and raise brand awareness for the promotional campaign ahead of the final match of the global tournament.
The LEGO Group and FIFA have unveiled a LEGO® replica of the iconic FIFA World Cup™ Trophy at Rockefeller Plaza, inviting fans to experience the build up close during the official opening of the LEGO Fan Zone, as excitement builds for the World Cup final.
Standing 8.47 meters tall and built with over 1.36 million LEGO bricks, the spectacular installation is the largest mobile LEGO build in existence and the largest FIFA World Cup 2026™ Trophy ever made.
Leading the unveiling was Cafu, football legend and three-time World Cup finalist, who helped reveal the giant official LEGO® FIFA World Cup™ Trophy alongside a group of fans united by their love for the game and the desire to connect people across cultures, generations, and communities.
Cafu stated: “The official FIFA World Cup Trophy is one of the most iconic symbols in sports, and seeing it recreated on this scale with LEGO bricks is truly incredible. The craftsmanship, creativity, and attention to detail are extraordinary. Football has always had the power to bring people together. Whether you play on the streets, cheer from the stands, or watch it with family and friends, it is one of the world’s greatest tools for social inclusion. And this installation is a fantastic way to celebrate that spirit ahead of the final stages of the FIFA World Cup 2026™.”
Crafted by a team of 59 designers, engineers, model builders, and technicians at the LEGO Group’s Model Production facility in Kladno, Czech Republic, the giant trophy took eight months of development and over 7,000 hours of building and assembly. Fans can see the build come to life in a behind-the-scenes timelapse video HERE.
The installation reflects the LEGO Group’s mission to inspire and develop the builders of tomorrow, bringing fans together through shared moments of creativity, imagination, and play as anticipation builds for the world’s biggest sporting event. Furthermore, it continues the LEGO® Editions football campaign, which in recent months has included the launch of the LEGO® Editions collection—reinterpreting football icons Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, and Vini Jr. as LEGO minifigures for the first time—and has created exclusive behind-the-scenes content and collectible sets designed to bring fans even closer to the tournament.
Most recently, the campaign video, titled “Everyone Wants a Piece,” brought the four football superstars together in LEGO minifigure form and generated strong viral engagement across social media platforms, further celebrating the universal bond between football and play.
Federico Begher, SVP for Product, Marketing and Development at the LEGO Group, commented: “Football and play have a unique ability to unite people, and through our partnership with FIFA, we are proud to help fans feel connected by their love for the game during the FIFA World Cup 2026™. The official FIFA World Cup Trophy™ is one of the most recognizable symbols in sports, and it has been incredible to see it come to life in LEGO brick form across every scale, from the official LEGO® FIFA World Cup™ Trophy set to this giant 8-meter replica in New York City. We hope the Fan Zone provides fans with a place to meet, create, and celebrate together, sharing the excitement and joy of the final stages of the tournament.”
The LEGO® installation is presented alongside the opening of the LEGO Group’s official FIFA World Cup Fan Village at Rockefeller Center, transforming the plaza into a destination for fans of all ages through creativity, play, and football culture. In addition to the trophy unveiling with legend Cafu, fans will be able to experience interactive building stations, create custom LEGO minifigures, contribute to a collaborative brick mural inspired by FIFA, and enjoy photo opportunities, giveaways, and other shareable experiences.
Extending beyond Rockefeller Plaza, the Champions Garden brings imagination and storytelling to life, inviting fans to celebrate together during the final stages of the FIFA World Cup 2026™ through their love for the game.
The New York activation is part of a global celebration involving markets across North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific, through which the LEGO Group brings football enthusiasts together through their love for the game. From fan villages and football-themed challenges to interactive building experiences, creative co-creation projects, and community events, each activation is designed to inspire connection, creativity, and shared moments of joy throughout the FIFA World Cup 2026™.
