US – CES 2026: THERE IS STILL ROOM FOR SURPRISE

Even if you think you’ve already seen it all, get ready to be surprised. Once again, CES (Consumer Technology Association), the chicest international technology fair, held from January 6 to 9, delivered an outstanding edition: over 148,000 attendees, 4,100 exhibitors including Lenovo, Netflix and PayPal, and 1,200 startups spread across 2.6 million square feet of exhibition space at the Las Vegas Convention Center. This year featured an extra highlight: the inclusion of The Sphere as a dystopian stand for Lego and Disney. A bold experiment that Gary Shapiro described as “the world’s most powerful proving ground for innovation.” We took a look around and selected some of the innovations that may spark your curiosity as an event professional.

ASUS unveiled an intriguing gadget that could significantly enhance virtual reality experiences at events. These are gaming glasses that simulate a virtual screen of up to 171 inches. They use a Full HD micro-OLED panel with a 240 Hz refresh rate and a 57-degree field of view, delivering a smooth and immersive experience. Weighing just 91 grams, they feature Bose-tuned audio to create three-dimensional sound without external headphones. They are compatible with PCs, consoles and portable devices thanks to a dock with HDMI, DisplayPort and USB-C.

One robot that captured attendees’ hearts with its natural movement was Boston Dynamics’ Atlas. It operates autonomously, can lift up to 50 kg and automatically replaces its own battery. It works in temperatures ranging from –20°C to 40°C and even in the rain. What impressed people most, however, was its almost human-like way of walking.

More glasses—this time for augmented reality. The Lenovo AI Glasses Concept allow users to read texts without anyone noticing; they project text directly into the field of vision while speaking—essentially a discreet teleprompter, ideal for certain types of events. They feature the AI Catch Me Up function: if you join a conversation late, the AI provides a summary of what has been said so far.

Samsung’s Micro RGB 130”, winner of the Best of Innovation at the CES Innovation Awards 2026, made its debut at First Look. Visitors were stunned by its scale and color precision. It offers the BT.2020 color gamut, certified by the Verband der Elektrotechnik (VDE), delivering extraordinary color accuracy and realism. As professionals know, maintaining image consistency becomes more challenging as screen size increases. To address this, Samsung applied Glare Free technology, ensuring uniform image rendering without distracting reflections.

Another surprise came in the form of Lenovo’s “sheet-like” screen. The LG OLED evo W6 Wallpaper TV has reinvented the concept of wall-mounted displays with a thickness of just 9 mm. It sits completely flush against the wall and uses Zero Connect Box technology to receive 4K audio and video wirelessly, eliminating visible cables and reinforcing the “sheet of paper” or fabric-on-the-wall aesthetic.

LEGO AND SPHERE STUDIOS TRANSFORM THE LAS VEGAS SPHERE INTO THE STAR WARS DEATH STAR

To launch its new Lego Smart Play, Lego transformed the Exosphere of the Las Vegas Sphere into a reinterpretation of one of the iconic battle scenes from Star Wars: A New Hope. The experience, created by Sphere Studios in collaboration with Disney Consumer Products and Lucasfilm, used the Sphere’s 54,000 square meters and 112-meter height to deliver a breathtaking projection.

Guests could sit in a Lego-themed X-wing cockpit to simulate the explosion of the Death Star, projected on the exterior surface, featuring a screen made up of more than 1.2 million LED discs. This immersive experience marked the kickoff for the launch of Lego Smart Play, scheduled for March 1.

It was a spectacular presentation of the new smart bricks which, although they look slightly different from the classic ones, hide a miniature computer inside. The so-called “smart brick,” as Lego calls it, does not use AI but resembles a traditional 2×4 brick. Few would imagine that it contains almost a full computer, powered by a custom-designed chip measuring just four millimeters. This chip interprets data from the brick’s accelerometers and other sensors—light and sound—and controls a set of LEDs, a synthesizer, a mini speaker and a Bluetooth-based intercommunication system between toys.
