UK – Walk the Plank deliver Manchester Day Parade 2011

The event, produced by arts organisation Walk the Plank, was led by a giant galleon, taken from the city’s coat of arms. Other highlights included a massive Gulliver, giant dragonfly, space rockets, mystical creatures and musical figures, in an extravagant display of colour, music and performance.

Around 2,500 people, from over 90 Manchester charities, community groups and companies worked with some of the North West’s best artists to bring to life their wonderful creations, inspired by the theme “Voyage of Discovery”.

Walk the Plank producer Liz Pugh said: “Last year’s parade was stunning, but unbelievably this year’s surpassed even our expectations. There was real passion on the streets of Manchester, and that is because there are so many groups and so many people who have a genuine passion and love for the city.”

Manchester Day Parade also received significant private sector sponsorship. Joining founding sponsors Siemens were The Co-Operative Group, Laing O’Rourke, Lend Lease, Wates Construction, Manchester Airport and Building Solutions.
