UK – LCC unveil major events programme until 2015
Liverpool City Council has revealed a major events programme that will attract visitors to the area until 2015. Councilor Joe Anderson has said that a diverse range of events are to be delivered. There are plans for a new River Festival and also an annual Festival of Entrepreneurship. The city hopes to host an international trade fair and the council is keen to build on the success of Mathew Street Music Festival.
To achieve such goals, LCC has created a Liverpool Fund of £350,000, which will be managed by Liverpool Vision. This new division will look to match funding from the private sector, and Marketing Liverpool will sit within Liverpool Vision to promote the Liverpool brand globally, working closely with the culture and tourism teams.
Cllr Anderson said: “In the time I have been leader, our events and conferences have made a real economic impact and helped to improve and strengthen our reputation as an outward looking and welcoming international city. We have just delivered the largest entrepreneurs event ever and next month Sea Odyssey will be in Liverpool, which is set to be the largest street theatre event in Europe this year. Our ambition therefore cannot be dimmed, it is time for big ideas if we are to compete effectively on an international stage”.
