As occurs every year, the International Tourism Trade Fair once again highlighted the leading role played by travellers on the weekend (Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd February), with a packed programme of activities and meetings that have been specially designed for them. Over a period of two days, travel enthusiasts were able to discover the latest new features at different destinations and enjoy preparing for their next trip.

Among other activities, the Minube-FITUR Travel Gathering was staged for the fourth time this year. Thus, on Saturday 2nd February, the stand brought together a large number of travellers who were ready to share their experiences, tips, advice and recommendations regarding different destinations and routes. Furthermore, at Travellers’ Corner, visitors found a space where they could win prizes relating to travel and share their favourite destinations through the social media. Members of the public could also travel around the world within the halls at FITUR thanks to the Travel Gymkhana, organised by the show and by Minube.com. Participants had to overcome a series of trials linked to the realm of tourism and travel in order to complete the stamps in their passport and gain access to different prizes, including trips abroad, nights at hotels and experiences at restaurants.

On Sunday 3rd February, special importance was granted to a series of activities that combined tourism with photography, such as the Travel Photography Workshop that was organised at the minube stand. At this free workshop, participants learnt how to present the destinations they have visited in photographic format, based on the help of a number of professional photographers and Internet experts. The most interesting dimension of tourism was also presented through the exhibition “The Fifty Best Travel Photographs“, which was made up of the Finalists in the competition entitled “Photos of Your Favourite Corners“, organised by minube with sponsorship from Canon Spain.

Some of the exhibitors at FITUR had also designed interesting activities on the weekend, such as the Basque Country, which introduced visitors to the exquisite delights of Basque cuisine through a live demonstration of how to make the Region’s typical tapas, known as “pintxos”. Japan presented its ancient culture to visitors with demonstrations of shodô, the traditional calligraphy in Japanese characters. For its part, Ireland painted its stand green and invited visitors at FITUR to take part in the traditional St. Patrick’s Day Parade, for the first time in the country’s history. Thus, on 17th March 2013, more than 8,000 people from all over the world will turn the St. Patrick’s Day Parade into The People’s Parade.

In addition, on the weekend visitors were able to take part in a series of interesting prize draws, such as the one being organised by Norway. Those visitors who approached the country’s stand, were not only be able to discover Norway’s gastronomic delights, but even win trays of its famous salmon. For its part, the company, Bigwall, invited visitors to take part in a draw for a guided adventure activity for 4 persons (canyoning or via ferrata). Similarly, the BlueBay Group staged a draw for a weekend for two persons at its hotels known as BlueBay Banús in Marbella and BlueBay Beach Club in Gran Canaria.
