ITALY – Rio 2016 Olympic Games Committee chooses Marco Balich

Milan, November 8th, 2011 – after an international competition, the Rio 2016 Olympic Committee awarded the task of creating and producing the Opening and Closing Ceremonies for the Olympic and Paralympic Games to the Cerimonias Cariocas Consortium, an Italian-Brazilian partnership between Filmmaster Group and SRCOM.

After a competition that lasted about five months, with twelve international entities participating as the most accredited players worldwide in the creation of great ceremonies, the Cerimonias Cariocas 2016 Consortium obtained the highest score in all the aspects of the Committee’s selection process, such as proven expertise, the approach suggested for the ceremonies and great live events related to Olympic Games, and the overall management method.

Filmmaster Group, a holding with an entirely Italian capital, was created 35 years ago and is composed of 4 members and IEG (Italian Entertainment Group). Through its subsidiary Filmmaster K-events, , the holding is one of the international leaders in the production of great events and spectacular ceremonies in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Its creations include great events such as the Copacabana New Year’s Eve celebrations, the Latin America World Economic Forum, the World Military Games’ Ceremonies, and the launch of the Rio 2016 logo.

Abel Gomes
With over 30 years’ experience in the creation of live performances in Brazil, he is one of the most prominent figures in the Carioca entertainment scenario. He is also the founder and director of P&G Cenografia and SRCOM. Abel Gomes started his career in TV Globo, where he worked as set designer in many TV shows. His CV includes the design of the settings of the RIO 2011 CISM World Military Games, the Copacabana New Year’s Eve celebrations, the launch of the Rio 2016™ logo, and the Brazilian Formula 1 Grand Prix.

President of Filmmaster K-events, is the creative director and executive producer of great events and ceremonies, one of the most prominent figure in the global live entertainment scenario. He signed many international events such as the Turin 2006 Olympic Ceremonies, the Carnival of Venice, Mexico City’s 2010 Bicentennial Ceremonies, the New Delhi Commonwealth Games’ Opening Ceremony, the 75th Anniversary of Shakhtar Donetsk FC in Ukraine, and the inauguration of the Juventus FC Stadium in Turin.

Flavio Machado
He started his career at P&G Cenografia in 1999, in the Client Service department. In 2004 Machado joined SRCOM. At present, he is a partner of the company and has contributed to the implementation of the launch of the Rio 2016™ logo, the Copacabana New Year’s Eve celebrations, and the opening and closing ceremonies of the Rio 2011 CISM Military Games.

Ric Birch
Master of Ceremonies and internationally renowned professional, Birch has worked in the ceremony industry for over 25 years.

The President of the Committee, Carlos Arthur Nuzman, declared: “This choice combines the Brazilian talent in the production of events with the international experience in the organization of Olympic Ceremonies. The synergy between the two organizations (Filmmaster Group and SRCOM) is the perfect results that expresses the true essence of Rio 2016™.”

The first appointment of the Cerimonias Cariocas 2016 Consortium will be the production of the Flag Handover at the next London 2012 Olympic Games.

Rio De Janeiro has been elected as the Host City of the XXXI Olympic Games by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 2007 during the 121st Session held in Copenhagen. Rio De Janeiro obtained a total score of 66 votes, followed by Madrid with 32.
