ITALY – MILAN FASHION WEEK 2026 KICKS OFF: A STRATEGIC ASSET FOR THE LOCAL ECONOMY. RECORD IMPACT ESTIMATED AT OVER €200 MILLION AND MORE THAN 130,000 ATTENDEES, UP 17%

The economic impact does not stop at the retail sector but involves the entire hospitality supply chain, from restaurants to hotels, consolidating Milan’s role as a global hub capable of transforming creativity into a powerful engine for growth and investment.

Milan Fashion Week, taking place from February 24 to March 2, is heading toward an edition expected to be particularly positive from both an economic and tourism perspective. Forecasts from analysts and industry associations indicate a clear improvement compared to last year, with double-digit growth in both attendance and spending generated in the city.

Data on the effects of major urban events suggest an increase in visitor flows of around 17%, with more than 130,000 expected attendees and a strong international component. This confirms the global expansion of the event and its growing importance among the world’s most relevant industry gatherings.

On the economic front, the estimated economic impact exceeds €200 million. Average visitor spending includes shopping, dining, accommodation and transportation: retail remains the sector benefiting the most, but the impact on hotels, venues and mobility services is also strengthening, involving the entire hospitality ecosystem.

Industry professionals highlight that the event functions not only as a driver for fashion houses and the runway calendar but also for the city’s international reputation. The presence of other global events during the same period further increases the territory’s appeal and reinforces Milan’s image as a center of creativity and innovation.

Trade associations also point out that high-profile events generate direct effects on temporary employment, logistics and parallel cultural initiatives, with benefits extending beyond the strictly fashion-related sector.

In a context of strong competition among global cities, Fashion Week therefore confirms itself not only as a creative showcase but also as an economic platform capable of strengthening Milan’s role as an international hub able to attract capital, tourists and media visibility.
