ITALY – MILAN DESIGN WEEK 2026: LOMBARDY REGION CELEBRATES €255 MILLION IMPACT AND 800,000 ATTENDEES ACROSS SALONE DEL MOBILE AND FUORISALONE

Both events attracted an international audience from 167 countries, confirming the region as the global hub for industry and innovation.

The Lombardy Region looks with satisfaction at the results of Design Week 2026, featuring the Salone del Mobile and Fuorisalone, which reaffirmed the territory as the international capital of design and confirmed its status as an integrated platform for industry, culture, and tourism.

With over 800,000 total attendees from 167 countries, Design Week stands as one of the most significant global appointments, capable of generating a direct economic impact of €255 million (+14.7% compared to 2025) and activating a widespread supply chain involving businesses, production districts, and services on a regional scale.

Another relevant element is the increase in average per capita spending, which rose to €250 (+8.6%).

“Lombardy,” underlines Debora Massari, Regional Councilor for Tourism and Territorial Marketing, “is a European leader in the supply chain: our territory is home to 30,000 design and furniture companies employing approximately 90,000 workers, a sector worth over €10 billion in turnover. Hotel occupancy rates reached 90% during the peak days of the Salone.”

The Salone del Mobile recorded 316,342 attendees, with 68% being international operators and the participation of 1,900 brands from 32 countries, consolidating its role as a strategic platform for internationalization and business development.

Simultaneously, Fuorisalone 2026 brought the territory to life with over 1,300 events and more than 500,000 visitors, transforming Milan into a widespread stage for experimentation across design, technology, fashion, art, and sustainability. Many visitors also flocked to Piazza Città di Lombardia, which hosted a special Fuorisalone featuring numerous attractions, events, and meetings.

The 2026 edition marks a significant evolution: Design Week is expanding beyond urban borders and shaping up as a Lombard ecosystem, involving other provinces and spreading across the entire regional territory. From the production districts of Brianza to the contract supply chains, through to the hospitality and retail systems, the event activates an integrated network that enhances expertise, “know-how,” and international appeal.

“Design Week 2026,” comments Councilor Massari, “the Salone del Mobile, and the Fuorisalone are no longer just Milanese events, but a regional heritage that generates widespread value, employment, and opportunities for the entire supply chain. As a Region, we continue to invest in this model, supporting internationalization, innovation, and integrated promotion, because design is one of the strategic drivers for growth and Lombardy’s identity in the world.”

The growth in international attendance, with expanding markets such as the United States, Germany, and Spain, along with emerging geographies and strong participation from new generations and global media, confirms Lombardy’s centrality in the sector’s transformation processes. Design Week is thus consolidated as a permanent design infrastructure, capable of transforming relationships into opportunities and visions into economic development, strengthening Lombardy’s positioning as an international hub for innovation and design culture.
