IRELAND – Sea power event aims to accelerate development of renewable energy
Around 750 global and academic experts in marine renewable power are expected to gather in Dublin from 17-19 October for the Fourth International Conference on Ocean Energy (ICOE) 2012.
The three-day event will take place at the Convention Centre Dublin (CCD) and will include presentations on key issues facing this new marine industry. The conference will also feature a trade exhibition, which will include demonstrations from leading industrial innovators displaying the latest technologies in harnessing renewable energy from the sea.
The purpose of the event is to share recent experiences from research and demonstration efforts, with the ultimate aim of accelerating development by stimulating collaboration networks between companies and research and development centres.
“It is a pleasure to bring this bi-annual conference to Dublin,” said Eoin Sweeney, head of the Ocean Energy Development Unit at the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland and Chair of ICOE 2012.
“Ocean energy will play a significant role in electricity generation and job creation, and the continued growth of this industry will provide positive economic benefits for Ireland and the rest of the planet.”
The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) is hosting this important conference and has partnered with the European Ocean Energy Association’s (EU-OEA) and the IEA’s Ocean Energy Systems technology initiative in organising the conference and exhibition.
“We are delighted to be hosting this innovative event,” said CCD head of conference sales Marie Lawlor. “As a business committed to long-term sustainability, we support marine renewable energy and it is a pleasure to be associated with this growing industry.”
In keeping with the marine theme of ICOE 2012, there will be a number of vessels berthed on the River Liffey, which is adjacent to the CCD, including those from the Naval Service and the Marine Institute, as well as The Commissioners of Irish Lights’ multi-functional ship, the Granuaile. The vessels will be opened at scheduled times to allow conference attendees view the ships’ features and talk with the crews.
