The Event

At Paris 2024, Technics and Jack Morton created The Hip Hop Yard, an open space celebrating breaking, DJing, and street art, where 130,000 visitors immersed themselves in authentic urban culture.

The primary objective of The Hip Hop Yard was to celebrate the debut of breakdance as an Olympic sport at Paris 2024 by creating an authentic, engaging space that paid homage to the roots of Hip Hop culture. Technics and Jack Morton aimed to offer a platform for breaking, DJing, and street art, showcasing the talents of local Parisian artists while inviting the global audience to actively participate.

The space was designed to be inclusive, allowing visitors to dance, scratch records, and engage with graffiti art, fostering a deeper connection to urban culture. Sustainability was also a key focus, with efforts made to reduce the carbon footprint by working with local vendors, using standard materials, and minimizing waste.
Ultimately, the goal was to create a memorable, culturally rich experience that honored Hip Hop’s past while shining a spotlight on its future on the Olympic stage.

The big idea behind The Hip Hop Yard was to create an authentic, interactive space that captured the raw energy of Hip Hop culture while honoring the historic debut of breakdance at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Inspired by the simplicity of early Hip Hop battlegrounds, the setup was minimalist—just a DJ booth, a powerful sound system, and an open dance floor—yet designed to encourage spontaneous interaction and participation.

The innovative approach came from blending tradition with inclusivity. Visitors weren’t just spectators—they were invited to dance, scratch records, and immerse themselves in graffiti art, making the space a living tribute to Hip Hop’s roots.

Creativity also extended to sustainability, as Jack Morton worked with local vendors, used standard materials, and minimized waste. The result was a vibrant, eco-conscious activation that connected global audiences to the heart of urban culture, powered by Technics’ iconic turntables.
