This year the prize was awarded to Balich Worldwide Shows for the three events at the Olympic Games in Sochi: the opening and closing ceremony of the Paralympic Games and the closing ceremony of the Winter Olympics.
During the awards ceremony, Klaus Span, President of the jury, explained: “Sometimes an industry can be impressed by random events or, on the contrary, carefully planned events. In the world of events, this can happen with Olympic celebrations, World Championships or Global Summits. That’s exactly what happened with three events at the Olympic Games in Sochi: the opening and closing ceremony of the Paralympic Games and the closing ceremony of the Winter Olympics. All of them were created by Balich Worldwide Shows.
These three events are so complex, exhaustive and creative that they break every model or standard. For this reason it wouldn’t be fair to confine them into a specific category. After an intense debate, we decided to reward them with the Iconic Special Jury Award, an award that stands out and shines in its own light. “
