DENMARK – EMEC 2016 generates significant attendance and social media impact

More than 400 delegates registered to attend MPI’s European Meetings & Events Conference (EMEC), which was held on 7-9th February in Copenhagen: this result represents a 27% increase compared to 2015.

emec2016EMEC is MPI’s signature annual European event through which the association delivers top-rate education, networking and business opportunities to the international meeting and event community. This year, the event took place on 7-9th February in Copenhagen.

The number of registered attendees, which excluded support staff, was made up of mostly European delegates (84%). About 13% of the delegates were from North America. There were more than 250 attendees at MPI Foundation’s Rendezvous, a 33% increase compared to last year’s event in Kraków, Poland.

EMEC featured more than 30 education sessions, including general, certificate and campfire sessions, while 21 suppliers and 24 planners participated in MPI’s Hosted Buyer Program.

EMEC also had a significant impact on social media: the event generated 8.4 million impressions with the #EMEC16 hashtag over the past seven days. The EMEC 2016 audience was also encouraged to tell their own story: in addition to thinking of themselves as the hero, they were asked to nominate a person at the conference who had supported them. That Twitter-based ask reached 26,180 people, generated 53,427 impressions and elicited nominations for five women. Noemi La Torre was selected as the top supporter.

Moreover, for the first time, MPI live-streamed general session content via @MPIinEurope’s Periscope channel; the opening general session attracted 400 live viewers and generated more than 1,000 hearts (viewer likes) from remote viewers worldwide.
