CZECH REPUBLIC – Ambassadors were awarded for contribution to congress tourism in Prague
More than 80 eminent scientists and experts together with the member agencies of Prague Convention Bureau and the representatives of the Prague Congress Centre attended the 4th Ambassador Awards Evening. The event was attended ICCA CEO Martin Sirk, who came to Prague on the occasion of the inspection visit regarding the candidacy of Prague on the ICCA Congress 2016.
The winners were awarded in five major categories. The award for the Corporate Event of the year 2012, that brought prestige to the Czech Republic and Prague as a destination, received the company Cisco Systems (Czech Republic) for Cisco Expo Conference 2012. During the conference, which was attended by more than 1.000 delegates and is considered as the most important event in the field of IT, the interesting innovations and technologies were introduced in the areas which the company is currently focused on.
The award in the category Candidature of the year 2012 was awarded prof. Karel Cvachovec, MD, MBA for his successful candidacy of 17th World Congress of Anaesthesiologists (WCA), which will be held in Prague in 2020. It is expected that the congress will be attended by up to 10.000 delegates from all around the world. Prague, represented by the Czech Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine and supported by GUARANT International, has achieved a significant success during the candidacy and defeated very strong candidates such as London, Istanbul or San Francisco.
The award in the category Congress of the year 2012 went to prof. MUDr. Jana Hercogová, CSc. for the 21st annual EADV Congress, which was organized by company C-IN in the Prague Congress Centre last year, and attracted more than 8.000 delegates, doctors and scientists from all around the world. The theme of the Congress was “Skin is Vital” that emphasizes the central importance of skin in our health and well-being. During the event, the top level knowledge in basic as well as clinical dermatology, skin and skin cancer, cosmetic dermatology, skin infections, venereology and many other field of dermatology were presented.
A special Award of Prague Congress Centre handed out the Prague City Councillor Václav Novotný together with the Director of the Prague Congress Centre Michal Kárník to Radoslava Fronková, the Director of nova-Art agency, for the Mary Kay Conference, which has been held annually in the Prague Congress Centre since 2008 and shall take place there until 2020.
The finale of the evening was the Award for the long-term contribution to congress tourism, received by prof. Eva Syková, DrSc., the Director of the Institute of Experimental Medicine of the ASCR. Prof. Syková is also a member of the Academia Europaea, associating the world´s best scientists, a member of the European Academy of Sciences and a member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences. Thanks to her activity, Prague hosted many significant events such as the 6th IBRO World Congress of Neuroscience in 2003 or 10th European meeting on Glial Cells in Health and Disease in 2011.
Successful bids and the subsequent hosting of the international congresses not only mean prestige for Prague and a significant visibility abroad, but also contribute significantly to the economic development of the city. Ambassador Awards Evening, which is a part of the Ambassadors Program of the Prague Convention Bureau, will be held and developed also in the following years.
