The Bea World Grand Prix 2018 goes to Google Home Training by Laqshya Live Experiences!

The prestigious Bea World Grand Prix 2018 goes to an Educational/Training Event from India. This was also the first year of the Best Location Awards, assigned to Valencia Convention Bureau and Finlandia Hall. The perfect ending for a record-breaking edition of a 3-day Festival that gathered the most influential community of event professionals from across the world.

November 26th, 2018. The ‘Oscars’ of the events have finally been unveiled. Last Friday night Bea World Festival celebrated its 13th edition awarding the best events of the year worldwide. A parade of excellences shined on the stage of the Grand Auditorium at Convento São Francisco in Coimbra, where over 700 delegates attended the ceremony.

The global contest reserved for events and live communication professionals was once again an exceptional opportunity to receive qualified visibility at an international level. After a full day of live presentations and voting, and very intense debate, the Jury Panel led by Gerd De Bruycker, Marketing Director at Cisco Systems was able to proclaim the winners of 2018, a year with three records established: in terms of entries (303 total submissions, +2.4% compared to last year), competing agencies (122, +10.9% compared to 2017) and countries represented (28).

The Bea World Grand Prix 2018 went to Google Home Training an event by Laqshya Live Experiences (India) for Google. When Google Home was launched in India, the first aim was to launch the product to the sales-staff that needed to know the product first-hand. The event replicated the ‘Escape Room’ format: without prior notice, mobile phones and devices were taken away from the attendees before they entered the venue, and all exits sealed. The only way out of the event was by navigating the training with the help of Google Home. No one could enter, no one leave – till the mission was accomplished 100% with a combination of quick-thinking and problem-solving. A suite at the hotel was done up to look like a Google Home. From the minute the 25 people (per event) walked in, everything from lighting, technical, to the training modules had to be controlled using the Google Home device till they figured out for themselves how the product works and how they could leave the room.

“The Jury decided to award this project with the Grand Prix because of its excellency in all its components” motivated Jury President Gerd De Bruycker. “After identifying the target audience by using data analytics and insights about the market, Laqshya Live Experiences came up with a very creative and fun idea and a flawless execution, paying great attention to business results”.

Mercedes #24RIDE produced by JAD Productions (Czech Republic) for Mercedes-Benz Cars Ceská Republika got the second place, while the bronze went to Equal Streets, again by Laqshya Live Experiences for Times of India. Laqshya Live Experiences also won the title of Best Bea World Event Agency while the title of Best Bea World Corporate Client went to Google and Mercedes-Benz Cars Ceská Republika (ex aequo).

The Best B2C Event <€500,000 Marco Category Award went to VM I DØDS – World Championship in “Death Dive” – Belly Flop jumping by 6.Sans (Norway). The Best B2C Event >€500,000 Marco Category Award was assigned to “Light up the FIFA World Cup” experiential activation, produced by Wink (The Netherlands) for Budweiser, Anheuser-Busch InBev, while the Best B2B Event >€500,000 Macro Category Award went to Cisco Live 2018, produced by George P. Johnson (United Kingdom).

The Time is Now by The Story Group-Born to Tell Your Story (Italy) for BTicino won a Special Mention for Best Creativity while the Press Award was assigned to Event Horizon 2018 by HiveWise & Media Apparat (Austria) for GridSingularity-Gsy.

The People’s Choice Award, assigned through a popular vote carried out via the mobile app, went to the 29th Summer Universiade Taipei 2017 – Opening Ceremony (Taiwan) by Interplan Group (Lead Agency) & Elements Entertainment (Consultant for Creation & Production) for the client Taipei City Government.

“This is our first international award and a proof that we are doing an amazing and creative work”, said Navneeth Mohan, Ceo of Laqshya Live Experiences. His agency entered 4 events, all of which were shortlisted to receive a total of 7 awards. “The Best Event Awards are an opportunity to compare our work and it is great to realise that a country like India is doing projects up to the international standards. We really thank our clients who trusted in a young agency like ours and all the team who worked so hard to make this happen.”

Winners were also proclaimed in 15 event categories and 4 feature categories. It is possible to check all entries and winners on Bea World website.

All Jury members, chosen among corporate event and marketing managers from a representative range of sectors and countries, plus senior representatives of event agencies’ associations from different countries in the world, committed to abide by a Code of Ethics. The result was a transparent, live and face-to face competition that avoided conflicts between Jury members and candidates, by preventing jurors from corporations to vote for a project from their own company and jurors from associations to vote for projects from their own country.

2018 saw also the launch of the first ever Best Location Awards. “Our commitment is to increase the culture of events and live communication worldwide, enhancing all aspects of the value chain”, explained Salvatore Sagone, President and Ceo of ADC Group and Founder of Bea World Festival. “For this reason, launched this year the Best Location Awards, aware as we are that the venue and destination play a fundamental role in the success of any event”. A selected Jury comprising senior representatives of national associations of events agencies from around the world thus assigned the title of Best Destination Convention Bureau to Valencia Convention Bureau (Spain) while Finlandia Hall (Finland) won the Best Congress/Conference/Convention Venue Award.

The ceremony, inspired by the theme ‘Creative Thinking – The Art of Breaking Routines’, was hosted by world-famous Portuguese illusionist Luis de Matos – winner of several important prizes such as the ‘Magician of the year’ (Hollywood Academy of Magical Arts) – who also entertained the audience with his magic.

“We are living a great time full of opportunities for the event industry. Live communication is indeed becoming more and more relevant in the media mix in terms of investments”, said Salvatore Sagone. “This is happening because a new kind of relationship between brands and consumers requires an emotional relationship. Event professionals have therefore to be proud of their job that has a great future, as I am of Bea World Festival that this year has registered another record-breaking edition. And I am strongly convinced that it will grow even bigger in the next future”.

Bea World Festival is an initiative by ADC Group and it is made possible thanks to the collaboration of APECATE, the association that gathers and represents the Portuguese companies of Congresses, Events and Tourism Animation, along with the institutional support of Tourism of Portugal, Tourism of Central Portugal and Coimbra City Council. Bea World 2019 will be held in Istanbul, Turkey.

Meet NetworkTables at Bea World Festival!

NetworkTables.com is a 3-year award-winning software tool for event organizers to help their attendees meet relevant people at their events. The tool shows you who else is sitting at or attending dinner tables, roundtable discussions, and workshops, so that you can pick the best spot based on who you want to meet and what interests you the most. Additionally, the tool lets attendees schedule 1-on-1 meetings using an algorithm that creates meeting time schedules that avoid conflicts in agendas and results in larger amounts of meetings. Attendees can do all this without having to download an app or create a profile, as the tool is seamlessly integrated with event ticketing tools.

The beautiful thing is that you’re already familiar with the tool yourself! Bea World is using it to boost your networking success during the Star-Talk & Lunch sessions, Pick-a-Brain meetings and 1-on-1s with exhibitors during coffee breaks.

You can get a taste of last year’s result by watching the case study video and you can read exactly how Star-Talk & Lunch sessions, Pick-a-Brain meetings and 1-on-1s with exhibitors work by reading this article.

If you want to know how NetworkTables can be applied to your events, feel free to schedule a meeting with the NetworkTables team by filling out this form or to meet them at Bea World Festival in the Expo Area.

Bea World Festival presents the 2018 educational programme: “Creative Thinking – The Art of Breaking Routines”

Two uplifting days, full of networking opportunities and knowledge transfer with leading experts of the events industry

Bea World Festival – Where Creativity Meets Business is a once-in-a-year opportunity to stay up-to-date with the changing landscape of events and live communication: a great opportunity to learn from experts and industry leaders, to see the world’s best-in-class events live and network with peers and influencers.

A full day of live presentations of the shortlisted events before a jury composed of corporate event planners, will inspire participants on November 22nd. During the programme on November 23rd, delegates will build their personalised agenda mapped to their individual specializations and needs and will be able to choose from uplifting keynotes, practical sessions, unconventional and interactive expert sessions and hands-on workshops.
«In a global and digital world we experience rapid changes. New technologies and practices are introduced and what we learned yesterday usually becomes obsolete by the time we’re ready to start applying it to our job. It is a life-long learning process and we have to focus on developing creative skills that are crucial in adapting to this ever-changing reality», explains Ilka Dzeik, Senior Partner of the Event ROI Institute and strategic advisor of Bea World Festival. «We call this “Creative Thinking – The Art of Breaking Routines”, others call it innovation, mainly it is all about making new connections between existing ideas. Inspired by this theme, we want participants to build communities and to find ways to look at and solve problems from a different perspective, avoiding orthodox solutions and thinking outside the box to innovate their events.
Morning highlights include a keynote by Tuija Seipell, a Canadian speaker, business advisor, entrepreneur and editor of www.thecoolhunter.net. Her opening address will drive participants to look for their own blind spots in order to identify customer-centric solutions that will drive business loyalty in a globalised, yet localised world.
Jeannine Koch, the Director of Re:publica will provide insights into the most successful and inspiring festival for the digital society. Gerd de Bruycker, Marketing Director at Cisco Systems, will explain how data can help to steer towards a user-centric marketing approach and a more personalised experience. In a panel discussion, experts from different disciplines will discuss the impact of globalisation and increasing regulations on our flexibility and agility to adapt to this ever-changing world. Finally Laura Winterling, astronaut instructor at ESA and CEO at Space Time Concepts, will take participants on a trip to outer space and explore what creative thinking in space travel and space tourism really means.
Peter Hopwood, Global Speaking & Impact Coach, International Conference Host and Founder of Hopwood Communications, will moderate the morning keynotes.

In the afternoon, participants will have the opportunity to join Fireside Chats, Campfire Sessions and Hands-on Labs to extend their knowledge in interactive sessions and to collect ideas from best practices, case studies and innovative and practical concepts to solve live communication challenges.

Bea World Festival also offers a variety of facilitated networking opportunities. Through NetworkTables, the online solution for table seating, delegates will, for example, have the chance to decide whom they want to meet at lunch and reserve a seat at a hosted table to discuss a specific topic (“Star Talk & Lunch”). Or they can “Pick a Brain” and schedule a 15 minute 1-on-1 meeting with Bea World Jury members and speakers.

Bea World Festival will take place between November 21st and 24th, 2018, in Coimbra, in the Centre of Portugal.

More details on the Festival’s agenda are available here, while tickets can be bought here, directly from Bea World website.

The Festival is an initiative by ADC Group and it is made possible thanks to the collaboration of APECATE, the association that gathers and represents the Portuguese companies of Congresses, Events and Tourism Animation, along with the institutional support of Tourism of Portugal, Tourism of Central Portugal and Coimbra City Council.

Bea World’s partner NetworkTables wins ‘Future of Meetings Award’ for being most Innovative Event Tool

NetworkTables is an international event technology company that helps meeting the right people at events and makes networking more effective through a user-friendly online solution for table seating, session registration and 1-on-1 meetings.

On June 28, NetworkTables founder Matthijs Otto and co-owner Querine Lap proudly received ‘The Future of Meetings Award’ for the second year running during The Meetings Show in London. The winner was determined by an international audience of event organizers that voted for the most innovative event tool. Last year, the company NetworkTables also won the ‘Future of Meetings Award’ and in 2016 the Event Technology Award for ‘Best Technology for Building Event Attendance’.

Since 2017, NetworkTables is a partner of Bea World Festival. Last year, over 480 valuable connections were made through the online tool. Therefore, this year NetworkTables will be present again to help participant make the most out of the several networking opportunities provided. Bea World will offer the possibility to all delegates to select a lunch table according to a topic that will be discussed at this table. Through the online NetworkTables tool, it will be possible to see who is already seated at which table and select the preferred “Star Talk and Lunch” table. In addition, it will be possible to discuss a specific challenge with one or more experts during the “Pick-a-Brain”. The NetworkTables algorithm will generate a personalized time-schedule to meet the speakers and jury members during 15-minute 1-on-1s.

The Future of Meetings is feature created in partnership with the Meetings Design Institute, giving visitors a taste of tomorrow’s technology and the latest tools being launched for meetings and events. “It is a great tool to simplify networking at events. It is easy to use and functional” said Maarten Vanneste, President at MDI.

NetworkTables is growing fast, the online event tool is used by event organizers in over 39 countries to increase show-up rate, save valuable time and solve complex event management challenges such as meeting schedules. Taiwan is one of the last countries added to international list.

The Bea World Top 30 Event Agencies

For the last 12 years, the Best Event Awards have been the most sought-after spotlight for event agencies from all over the world. Obviously, it’s not just about fame and glory. It’s also about brand awareness and new business opportunities.

With entries now open to award the best projects of 2018, we thought it would be a good idea to warm up by looking at the most awarded event agencies of the whole history of Bea World!

The Bea World Hall of Fame rewards agencies for their creativity, innovative approach, strategic thinking and impact. Moreover, it recognises their loyalty over the years as well.

Ranking is based on the total sum of points obtained for each prize won (see table below) as from the first ever Best Event Awards, which dates back to 2006. Since then, over 280 agencies from 29 countries have competed in the Best Event Awards.

And now… a classic drum roll, please… it’s time to uncover the winning agency!

The most awarded event agency is… Filmmaster Events from Italy!

Filmmaster Events has never missed a single appointment with the Best Event Awards, totalling a staggering 56 awards over 12 years, among which three Grand Prix (2006, 2007 & 2017), one Iconic Event Award (2017) and the title of Best Bea World Event Agency (2017).

“For many years,” comments Andrea Varnier, CEO of Filmmaster Events, “we have approached the BEA event with passion and great commitment. Every year, the competition becomes more complex and challenging. Some years have been easier and others less so. Knowing that we are the most awarded agency is a demonstration of the dedication and passion that we put into our daily work. We currently hold the Best Event Agency, a recognition granted to us the first year of the award: it would be difficult to improve on these results, but we will aim to maintain this outstanding record by continuing to get involved.”

In second place, from Germany, we have Insglück Gesellschaft für Markeninszenierung. A Bea World devotee since 2008, Insglück has won one Grand Prix in 2008, and 33 awards in different categories, of which four only last year.

In third place, Magic Garden from France, who took part 7 times in the Awards, and won two Grand Prix (2014 & 2016) and 21 other awards.

The fourth place goes to Desafio Global – Events & Activation Experience from Portugal, who has entered the Best Event Awards for 8 years, winning a total of 29 awards.

And in fifth place we have Vok Dams Events & Live Marketing, another German agency that has managed to win 31 awards in 7 years.

Out of the total 30 top event agencies, 9 are from Germany, 5 from France, 4 from Italy, 3 from Spain, 3 from the United Kingdom and one from each of the following countries: Belgium, The Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Russia, Slovakia.

It’s no surprise that such ranking is presently dominated by European agencies, as the Best Event Awards was a competition reserved for European agencies only until 2016.

As from last year, the Awards have been opened up to the global event industry (Bea World). Surely, in the next few years, we’ll also see top non-European agencies being brought into the fold of winners too.

Would you like to be recognised as a Bea World Top 30 event agency? Give yourself a chance by applying now!

What makes an award-winning entry? A message from Bea World 2018 Jury President

By Gerd De Bruycker

Do you want to be recognized as one of the best in the worldwide events and experiential marketing industry? Don´t hesitate and have a look at www.beaworldfestival.com and submit your entry. You can apply between 7th May and 21st September 2018.

Last March – in the beautiful island of Sao Miguel in the Azores (Portugal) – I was elected for the second time in three years to be the jury president for the Best Event Awards (a global competition dedicated to events and live communication). First time was 3 years ago in Saint Petersburg, Russia. This time the festival will take place in Coimbra, Portugal, where an international jury of corporate event managers will judge all entries and grant certificates of excellence and quality to the winners of different categories. Here you can find a list of the categories.

Your top reasons to enter can be:

  • Be recognized as the best and gain business advantage
  • Be acknowledged in front of an international corporate jury
  • Choose a transparent, live, and face-to-face competition
  • Learn from your peers and competitors
  • Get international media coverage

Though, what makes an award winning entry? I hope I am allowed to speak in name of the whole jury. We will be judging each submission on a number of criteria, including the following:

  • Creativity and innovation: Creative idea to support the objectives of the event. Creativity is not just an idea, it can also be an innovative approach to event aspects.
  • ROI, effectiveness: We are all doing event marketing in a digital world. ROI is key in today´s marketing world. We, as corporate event marketers need to prove the ROI of our events and how they fit into the overall marketing mix. From brand awareness to lead generation.
  • Channel or communication strategy: How effective have you been in addressing and communication with your audience.

These are the main criteria that we will judge upon during the online voting. Make sure that your entry is pitching these criteria.

When you entry will be selected to be presented at the festival itself (this will happen in Coimbra, Portugal on 22nd November 2018), you should take an additional element into account. In Coimbra it is all about your face-to-face pitch to us. Convince us why you should win, what was different, what is pushing the boundaries of our industry. And do this in an inspiring and energetic way.

The festival itself is an essential meeting place and networking event for the international event community. Three inspiring days full of creativity, networking opportunities, knowledge transfer and destination experiences will culminate in the Awards Ceremony celebrating outstanding events and the winners of the Best Event Awards.

Do you want to stand out in the international events industry? Do you have projects that are pushing the boundaries of our marketing discipline? Do not hesitate and submit your best projects here to win a golden elephant award.

Best of luck and hopefully we meet in Coimbra in November.
